Event Overview

The South African Obstacle Course Racing community has grown at an intense rate over the last couple of years, not only in numbers, but also in competitiveness. The timing is right to host a South African OCR Championship. There will be two divisions, Pro and Age Group

The Pro Division championship will utilise the 15km Black Ops Elite competition, with the top three male and female athletes being awarded cash prizes as well as free entry into the Pro division of the 15km World Championships in London, England, made possible by The Warrior Race and SAOCR.

The Age Group championships will utilise the 10km Commando Elite division, with top male and female athletes from each age group being awarded cash prizes, as well as free entry into the Age Group division of the 15km World Championships in London, made possible by The Warrior Race and SAOCR.


Eligible Divisions

15km Black-Ops Elite:
– Male & Female: Open, any athlete over 18 can compete in this age category

10km Commando Elite:
– Female age categories: u/19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+
– Male age categories: u/19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+


Qualifying Criteria

15km (Black-Ops Elite)
– Athletes must be over 18 years old and must have completed at least one Warrior Race Black-Ops Elite race with his/her DQ Band intact.

10km (Commando Elite)
– Athletes must have completed at least one Warrior Race Black-Ops Elite, Commando Elite or Rookie Elite race with his/her DQ Band intact.

The Obstacle Course Racing South African Championships is brought to you by The Warrior Race and SA OCR and endorsed by Obstacle Course Racing World Championships (OCRWC).

Pre Registration & Briefing: There will be a non-compulsory Pre Race briefing and Q&A session for Commando and Black-Ops Elite athletes on Friday 14 July 2018 at 16h00 at the Race Venue. The following parties will be present for the race briefing and Q&A session: Hennie Scheepers (Organiser), Jonathan Hart, (Route Director and Obstacle Designer), JP Nortje (Marshals), 4 x Marshal Zone Managers, Max Cluer (MC & Adviser), Race Referee (To be appointed), Alec Avierinos (SAOCR), Adrian Bijanada (OCR World Champs), Manus de Waal (Safety Officer).

Athlete’s DQ bands will also be handed out during this session and athletes can double check their Timing Chips.


The course and obstacles

Obstacles:
Obstacle difficulty won’t increase significantly, it will be similar to every year’s series final i.e. Warrior #8. There will be 4 unique, never seen before in South Africa obstacles inspired by Obstacle Course Racing World Championships (OCRWC).

The Course:
Athletes are allowed to scout the course, but this is strictly limited to the spectator route and no practise on obstacle are allowed except on the Sprint Course.

A dedicated Race Referee will be appointed specifically for the OCR SA Champs


Reebok Sprint Race

Athletes are only allowed to practice on the Sprint course on Friday and Saturday morning before the competition begins.

Results and Prizes

Official results will be published 45min before Prize Giving and any timing/result queries must be submitted before this time frame. The Race Referee’s decision is final.

There will be OCR SA Champs specific medals, trophies, and merchandise

Black Ops Elite:
The top three male and female athletes will receive cash prizes and free entry into the Pro division of the 15km World Championships in London, England.

Commando Elite:
The top male and female athletes from each age group will receive cash prizes, and free entry into the Age Group division of the 15km World Championships in London, England.

Prize Money for the OCR SA Championships is increased significantly for this event, the increased prize money was made possible by a big contribution from OCR WC on top of the regular Warrior Prize Money. Key Health also made a generous contribution. See table below of the total prize money breakdown per distance and category.
